I was at Walmart this afternoon, and they had single burner and double burner GE hotplates in stock. The single burner unit was around $19.

And, yes, I know... it's evil to shop at Walmart, etc. But, in Fairfield Iowa, it's either shop at Walmart or drive 30 miles to shop at Kmart or Target in Ottumwa.
