anti-freeze, and one hit by a car when I was growing up I have to totally
disagree. Letting a cat roam outside that wasn't raised out of doors and
trained by their mom how to survive is dangerous and borderlines on cruelty.
Their mental capacity does not compare to a 10 year old child who is much
better able to reason what is safe and what is not and I would still argue
that I let them out only with supervision or in a fenced in yard especially
in today's world. My two year old understands dangerous situations better
than most cats but I don't let him run outside and play alone.
I also keep my dogs within fences or on leashes.

There are different opinions on that one. I think cats who stay indoors are
terribly understimulated and may go a little mad at the lack of sensory
input, moving things to chase, smells, etc. But we don't get highly bred
cats, most of ours are from feral parents and may have more of their
instincts intact so they need more activity than we can provide for them.
Yes there are more dangers, but I wouldn't prevent my kids from going
outdoors because it's safer in the house, either.
Cats who aren't allowed outside are more likely to get lost (tho usually
they just hide nearby) because they aren't used to being out there.
